Open to Holy Cross students and non-Holy Cross students
For all sessions, a student must be 16 years old on or before the posted starting date on the application form.
Holy Cross High School conducts a Driver Education Program that fully meets the standards of the New York State Motor Vehicle Department and the New York State Education Department. Lecture teachers received state certification and instructors are licensed and approved by the Motor Vehicle Department. Note: Students successfully completing the program may obtain their unrestricted (senior) licenses at age 17. Enrollment in the course does not guarantee that a student will pass a road test administered by the Motor Vehicle Department (DMV). Objectives of this program include the teaching of driver safety, rules of the road, and the proper knowledge, attitude and skills needed to drive. In-the-car instruction will provide students with the basic skills needed to drive. In addition to taking this program, the DMV recommends at least 50 total hours of driving practice.
At the end of the program, students will receive a Completion Certificate (MV 285) and an Insurance Certificate. The Insurance Certificate, when sent to an insurance company, may provide the students with a 10%-15% discount on their annual premium for each year until age 25, (depending upon the insurance company).
Learner Permit and Junior Licenses Restrictions
Restrictions on drivers holding junior learner permits and junior licenses (DJ) apply to all un-licensed students enrolled in the course. Students may NOT drive under any circumstances in the five boroughs of New York City. Obtaining the permit and junior license is part of the process of obtaining a senior license (D classification) provided a student has successfully completed the Driver Education program and successfully passed a road test.
