Class of 2020

Saturday, June 6 was the scheduled commencement ceremony for the members of Holy Cross High School’s Class of 2020. While we were not able to gather together as we had intended, the administration, faculty, and staff were determined to celebrate and honor all of our graduates’ hard work and accomplishments.

Our principal, Edward Burns ’84, and his leadership team orchestrated a personal graduation ceremony for each individual senior and family. Over the span of several days, teachers and staff visited students throughout Queens, Brooklyn, and Nassau County to conduct a private ceremony for each graduate.

When speaking with Mr. Burns, he shared that “We wanted a way to celebrate each of our graduates in a meaningful way, allowing their families to be a part of this milestone. It was about giving each student the individual attention they deserved and to be celebrated.”

“Each one of our graduates was visited at his home, many of which were decorated with signs and special awards,” said Michael Truesdell, president of Holy Cross. “Lots of tears were shed … it was very heartwarming.” Education is so individualized. We need to reach out to each student and make sure we are fulfilling his potential … We did this because we care for them as an individual person.”

While the school still hopes to be able to come together as a community in the near future to celebrate, our students and families know the gratitude we at Holy Cross all feel in being able to be a part of their lives over the last four years.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020! Go Knights!
