English

With an emphasis on developing both academic and practical literacy skills, the English Department offers a cohesive curriculum of writing-based courses that address rigorous educational standards while respecting the personal expression of the individual. Our comprehensive program imparts the importance of the written word while seamlessly integrating preparation for tests such as the Regents Examination in English, the SAT Critical Reading and Writing Exams, and the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition.

Course readings range from the classics to today’s most engaging texts and present meaningful, inspirational examples of the power of great writing. Additionally, our electives in creative writing, journalism, drama, and the arts invite students to explore their own talent while producing original works in a supportive and attentive environment.
