Welcome to our Spring Parent, Teacher, Student Conferences and thank you for being here. Enclosed, please find your son’s third quarter report card. I would like to congratulate all of our students who have worked to the best of their ability- especially those achieving Honor Roll status!  I am pleased to share with you the following school activities/events that will be taking place over the next few months.

Classes resume on Monday, April 24th and the summer uniform will be in effect, green golf shirt, with the current school logo. Golf shirts may be purchased in the school Bookstore for $25.00.

Regents preparation and review classes are underway, please take advantage of these opportunities to prepare for the regents.

On Thursday, April 27th at 7:00 pm all Senior students are expected to be in attendance with a parent or guardian for Senior Information Night. This informative meeting will provide in-depth coverage regarding the end-of-year timeline, senior exams schedules, graduation, and prom. I look forward to seeing everyone at this important meeting.

All seniors are encouraged to participate in National College Decision Day by wearing a t-shirt or sweat shirt indicating their college choice on Monday, May 1st. This is an opportunity for the school community to acknowledge and celebrate their successes.

The World Language Department will be hosting International Night on Friday, May 5th from   5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. This family orientated night provides an opportunity for the school community to come together and enjoy good ethnic food. Tickets will be sold in the Business Office for $5.00.  For more information please contact Ms. Diez at adiez@myhchs.org

On Monday, May 8th Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will participate in a presentation from guest speaker Chris Herren, a former professional basketball player and motivational speaker who started The Herren Project to increase education and public awareness on the dangers of substance abuse.

The Festival of the Arts is a unique, fun collaboration between the Art and Music Departments which highlights our talented artists and musicians. This celebration of the arts will take place on Friday, May 12th at 6:30 pm and will showcase the outstanding musical capabilities of our Freshman Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble. It will also provide a wonderful opportunity to view artwork created by our students in Studio Art, Computer Graphics, 3-D Design, Drawing, Painting, Television Production and AP Studio Art classes.

A program verification listing was sent to all parents via email in March. Students will not receive their actual schedules until September. There will be opportunities in May, and again in June, for students to request changes. Changes will be granted based on availability and qualifications for class. The final day to request changes is Friday, June 16th. We do not make changes during the summer month or in September. Please review the course selections with your son and make sure his classes are correct and appropriate. If you have any questions, please contact your son’s guidance counselor.

All current juniors, in the Class of 2018 for September will have to supply written confirmation of having received a vaccination or a booster for Meningococcal Disease after their 16th birthday. If you have any question please contact the school nurse at nbrandon@myhchs.org.

For the classes 2018, 2019, 2020 there is a limited amount of financial aid available for the 2017-2018 academic year. Parents and Guardians must file a Financial Aid Form (with tax records) by May 15, 2017. Information is available from the Business Office, ext. 574. There is a $30.00 application fee.

Fourth quarter progress reports will be emailed/mailed home for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors on Friday, May 12th.

In the event your son has an end-of-year failure, it must be made-up in summer school in order to return in September. Students who fail more than two courses on the final report card are subject to dismissal. Passing a New York State Regents Exam does not automatically enable a student to pass the class. Similarly, passing a class does not enable a failing New York State Regents score to be ignored. Our school policy is outlined in the Academic Manual & Course Guide located under Academics on the school’s website. Summer School registration starts the week of Monday, June 26th. Classes start on Monday, July 10th and finish on Thursday, August 17th. For more information, please refer to our website.

It is my hope that the liturgical season of Easter reminds us of the hope that the resurrection of Our Lord brings. May this Easter season bring about renewed faith and hope, for a successful close to this academic year for our Holy Cross man, your son.
